New leader named for Maine Better Transportation Association
Maine Better Transportation (MBTA) recently hired Jacob Lachance to lead the association as its Executive Director.
Lachance, an Augusta native, has a background in law enforcement and, most recently, was a government relations specialist for the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. He will replace long-time director Maria Fuentes, who is retiring.
“We are excited to bring Jake into this important role,” MBTA Board President Erik Wiberg said. “The Board of Directors is looking forward to his leadership, vision, and talents in moving the Association forward.”
Lachance graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a degree in political science, then enrolled in the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and embarked on a career in law enforcement in 2015. After serving as a patrol officer in South Portland, he moved to Cumberland and rose to the position of Captain, before shifting into a governmental relations role at the Chamber.
“Jake certainly knows his way around the Maine Legislature, and his work on policy issues, coalition building, and membership engagement, along with his passion for public service and transportation, made him an ideal choice for the Executive Director position,” Wiberg added.
“I am honored and humbled to be the next Executive Director for the Maine Better Transportation Association,” said Lachance. “The reputation that the MBTA has built in Augusta and beyond in Maria’s tenure is one that carries weight, ensuring the Maine economy has a strong backbone and that safety is paramount. I am excited to work with the Board of Directors to continue strengthening relationships with our members, stakeholders, and government partners, and to advocate for improved quality of life and economic growth through a safe, efficient transportation infrastructure network.”
Lachance will begin his new role at the MBTA in mid-July.
